This webinar will provide an overview of available GIS data and tools for researching and mapping rail transportation projects, including the Surface Transportation Board’s (STB) Railroad Map Depot.

Participants will learn:

• How to use the STB’s National Rail Network Map and the Abandoned and Railbanked Rail Lines Map to locate current and former railroad lines
• How to use the STB’s Rail Heritage Map to identify historically significant railroad properties
• Where to find other available federal government GIS resources
• How to get started using open-source GIS products like Google Earth to create professional maps of railroad projects
