While technological advancements are moving forward are a record pace, including autonomous vessels, automated container operations, and autonomous technol- ogy for inland routes, the pandemic has increased crewing and supply chain issues causing headaches for carriers and customers alike. This panel will provide a primer on these topics as well as other emerging issues in the Maritime industry, including cyber security threats and crisis management.

10:50 AM                            Violence Against Airline Cabin Crew: Why Violence is on the Rise and the Legal Challenges in Reducing it: Passenger violence against airline cabin crew, and flight attendants in particular, has risen dramatically since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the institution of passenger mask requirements. This panel will discuss the legal ramifications of that increased violence and the legal challenges airlines must confront when attempting to reduce it. In particular, the panel will examine the applicability of OSHA requirements and regulations, airlines’ abil- ity to ban passengers, the antitrust issues associated with the sharing of banned passenger lists among airlines, and airlines’ efforts to work with the FAA to regulate passenger conduct.
